Smorgasburbia is a soft-sculptural installation paying homage to the cultural diversity of the Moreland region. Through meticulously sewn renditions of her favourite snacks Chloe A Smith (imakesoftfood) celebrates the unique flavours, colours and institutions that have sated the cravings of Moreland residents for years, encouraging viewers to relive their first Paloma roll, haloumi pie or Coli baba kebab.

When my grandmother married my grandfather in the 1950s he didn’t eat Chinese food. She would cook two different meals each night. One Chinese for her, and one Australian-Irish for him. For a woman who believes food is the most direct representation of love, this was problematic.
